September 02, 2010 - OTTAWA, ON- 31 August 2010- NorthStar Utilities Solutions' MeterSense has been selected by Doyon Utilities in Fairbanks, Alaska. Doyon Utilities is deploying the MeterSense Meter Data Management (MDM) solution as part of their ongoing project with the US Army to study utility energy management at three military bases in Alaska. The primary driver for proceeding with a MDM system is to empower the military with utility usage information that will move the Alaska's Army installations toward meeting their energy management goals.
Brandi McCullough, Doyon Utilities' IT Systems Administrator and Project Manager, shared the following:
"Doyon Utilities is a Tier II utility (< than 250,000 meters) operating as a Tier I utility (>250,000 meters) due to the energy management requirements and advanced technologies used in our infrastructure. (These include Advanced Metering Infrastructure, 15-minute read intervals, GIS and SCADA).
Based on the Army's energy management requirements, it was clear that much more than a CIS was needed. These requirements proved that a strong CIS and meter data management tool was necessary in order to meet the Army's energy management goals and needs.
Only one vendor, NorthStar Utilities Solutions, had a product that supports Tier II utilities and Tier I energy management requirements "out of the box".
